If you are new to social media and have no idea where to start, this conversation is for you. Syd Meyer, founder of SSS Lighthouse Creative, sits down with Elena, a founder from Marathon in the Florida Keys who built two AI software products without writing a line of code. Syd answers every question a beginner has about starting on LinkedIn.
What should a beginner do first on LinkedIn?
Start posting, even before your profile is perfect. You will not know what to write about for a while, and that is normal. Post from your personal account, not a business page. Tell your founder journey instead of listing features.
What kind of content works best on LinkedIn?
LinkedIn is a writing-forward platform. Text posts paired with a real photo of you tend to beat graphics and polished carousels.
How often should you post on LinkedIn?
One to three times a week. LinkedIn grades new posts against your best performers, so posting more does not earn you loyalty from the algorithm. Put the extra time into commenting on posts from peers and ideal clients.
How do you talk about your business without bragging?
Mix top, middle and bottom of funnel content, and mention your product in about one post in three. Tell customer stories instead of running ads. The goal is to be known for a lane, not an app.
Should you focus on LinkedIn or YouTube?
Use both, together. YouTube is long-form and builds trust. LinkedIn is short-form and sends people there. Record one long conversation, then cut clips from it.
What is the best advice for starting from zero?
Pick one platform and learn it inside out. Expect it to take longer than you think. Build relationships in the DMs. Hit record the moment an idea hits. Your story is worth sharing.
