Signy - The Hall Burns Hot

Signy is one of my favorite figures in the Völsunga saga. She is married against her will to King Siggeir, the man who kills her father and her nine brothers. Only her brother Sigmund escapes. She stays for years in Siggeir’s hall, but the marriage is never what she lives for. Blood and honor come first. The sons she bears Siggeir she sends to Sigmund to be tested for the revenge, and when they fail she has them killed. Then she takes a sorceress’s shape, goes to Sigmund in the woods, and bears him a son, Sinfjötli, so the avenger will be pure Völsung blood. Years later Sigmund and Sinfjötli burn Siggeir’s hall. Sigmund calls her out, but she will not leave. She kisses her brother and her son, then walks back into the fire and dies with the man she destroyed.
