Join us as we read Genesis chapters 16–17 and discover powerful lessons about faith, patience, obedience, divine promises, and the faithfulness of Almighty God. In Genesis 16, we read about Abram, Sarai, and Hagar. As Sarai struggles with the delay in God's promise of a child, she gives Hagar to Abram, leading to conflict and sorrow. Yet, in the midst of Hagar's distress, God sees her and meets her in the wilderness. This chapter reminds us not to run ahead of God's timing or rely on our own understanding. When we face difficult situations, we must seek God's direction and trust in His wisdom. In Genesis 17, God appears to Abram, reaffirms His covenant, changes Abram's name to Abraham and Sarai's name to Sarah, and promises that Sarah will bear a son, Isaac. God also establishes circumcision as the sign of His covenant with Abraham's household. This chapter teaches us that God is faithful to His promises, even when they seem humanly impossible. Abraham's response reminds us of the importance of walking before God faithfully and obeying His instructions. KEY LESSONS FROM GENESIS 16–17 God sees our struggles: Just as He saw Hagar in the wilderness, God is aware of our pain and circumstances. Wait for God's timing: Do not allow impatience to lead you into decisions outside God's will. God is faithful to His promises: What seems impossible to us is possible with Almighty God. Walk in obedience: Faith in God should be demonstrated through a life surrendered to His will. God has a purpose for every life: Even in difficult circumstances, we can seek His guidance and trust His sovereignty. Remember God's covenant: God's promise to bless the nations through Abraham points forward to Jesus Christ, through whom salvation is offered to all who believe. KEY SCRIPTURES Genesis 16:13 (KJV) “And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?” Genesis 17:1 (KJV) “And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.” Genesis 17:5 (KJV) “Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.” A MESSAGE OF SALVATION The story of Abraham reminds us that God has a plan to bring His blessing to all nations. That plan finds its ultimate fulfilment in Jesus Christ. Through His death and resurrection, we can receive forgiveness of sins, reconciliation with God, and eternal life. Whatever you are going through today, do not lose hope or take matters into your own hands without seeking God's direction. Repent of your sins, put your faith in Jesus Christ, and allow the Holy Spirit to guide your life. The God who sees you is able to sustain you as you walk in His will.
