The Helicopters of King County: Bell 407s, Hueys & More

Get an up-close look at the helicopters of the King County Sheriff’s Office Air Support Unit as we walk around the aircraft that support law enforcement, search-and-rescue, tactical operations and firefighting missions across Washington’s Puget Sound region. KCSO operates a five-helicopter Bell fleet that includes two Bell 407s — including a newer 407GXi — a TH-67 primarily used for pilot training, and two refurbished UH-1H Hueys equipped for demanding rescue and tactical missions. The Bell 407s serve on the patrol side of the operation, equipped with technology including FLIR 380HDc cameras, Trakka searchlights, SHOTOVER digital mapping and Technisonic communications equipment. The Hueys bring additional capability with external hoists and the ability to support rescues, SWAT operations and initial wildfire attack with Bambi buckets.
