Semana Santa in Spain is a tradition that dates back more than 500 years, combining history, culture, and community in a way that few events in the world can match.
In Malaga, the scale is especially striking. The massive floats, known as tronos, can weigh several tons and are carried by large teams of costaleros. Each procession is organized by brotherhoods (cofradías), some of which have existed for centuries and spend the entire year preparing for just a few days.
One of the most iconic elements are the nazarenos, wearing long robes and pointed hoods — a visual tradition that originated in medieval penitential practices. Every movement, every sound, and every detail follows patterns that have been preserved across generations.
This video takes you inside the experience — beyond the surface — capturing the atmosphere, the people, and the living tradition that continues to shape Spanish culture today.
