I Hooked My Biggest Fish of the Year… Then This Happened

We headed into the Pyrenees to fly fish the stunning River Segre during a massive heatwave. With water temperatures too high to target trout for long, we switched our focus to the river's other fantastic species - and things got surprisingly interesting! We spotted cruising carp, caught trout, chub and roach, lost a couple of fish, and then hooked something that completely doubled over our 4wt rod. What followed was an epic battle with a powerful fish that fought deep and hard for over 10 minutes. And that wasn't the only surprise on this session. There was also a bizarre fish bone "catch"… and a hilarious new addition to our fly-fishing vocabulary. Pretty crazy day and perhaps not my luckiest one!
