Terranigma would look incredible with an HD-2D remake — but better graphics are only the beginning. In this follow-up, I’m looking at the other parts of Terranigma I’d modernise while keeping everything that makes the original special. That means improving Ark’s fast real-time combat rather than slowing it down, making Rings, Pins and Magirocks genuinely useful, smoothing out some of the game’s extreme level-based difficulty spikes, and making Pandora’s Box easier to use without removing its personality. I’d also push Terranigma’s town-development system further, add some carefully chosen quality-of-life features, give the English localisation another pass, remaster the soundtrack while keeping the original SNES music available, and include a proper Classic Mode. The goal isn’t to turn Terranigma into another generic modern RPG. Modernise it. Don’t replace it. No crafting bloat. No endless loot tiers. No open-world checklist. Just Terranigma — with its weaker systems brought up to the same standard as its world, music and atmosphere. What would you change in a Terranigma remake? Let me know below.
