Marissa Muteroni returned to court in Ohio after facing charges of aggravated possession of drugs and attempted aggravated possession. As part of a plea agreement, the felony charge was dismissed, while she pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated possession, a first-degree misdemeanor. Her attorney argued that the pills found in her possession belonged to her nephew and emphasized that Marissa had been doing well in recovery court, remaining sober and consistently testing negative.
However, the hearing became tense when the judge questioned the explanation for carrying multiple prescription pills in a bottle that did not match the medication inside. The judge also challenged Marissa and her attorney for appearing to blame the police rather than fully accepting responsibility. Things escalated further when the judge noticed Marissa rolling her eyes and directly accused her of “playing victim,” stressing that true recovery requires accountability and moving forward instead of making excuses.
Despite the tough lecture, the judge recognized her progress in treatment. Marissa ultimately received 180 days in jail suspended, three years of supervised probation, continued substance-abuse and mental-health treatment, and a $250 fine plus court costs.
