Mohammed Rafi's Unheard & Unknown Personalities by Music Promoter and Filmmaker Amarjit Singh Kohli. About Mr. Amarjit Singh Kohli, Chairman of the Sakha Cultural Society, who has been involved in promoting music and the fine arts in Delhi for the last 50 years. Mr Amarjit Singh Kohli is a graduate mechanical engineer from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh. He retired as Jt Director of Bureau of Indian Standards, Govt of India. He is now the Chairman of Sakha Group of Companies. (website www.sakhaengineers.com) He is more known for his pioneering efforts in the field of promotion of music, drama and social activities for the last 50 years by organizing more than 500 Functions through his organizations Kala Sangam (founded in 1966), Punjab Engineering College Chandigarh Old Boys Association (PECOBA- 1967), International Institute of Gurmat Studies (1972), Sakha (1987), Lions Club & about 30 others. He is a pioneer who started the tradition of bestowing Awards to distinguished artistes in India by introducing “Shobhna Awards” way back in 1974 through his organization Shobhna Kala Sangam. (Only Filmfare Award existed before in India). From 1983 onwards, he has been organizing annually music competitions in memories of singers like Mukesh, Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Hemant Kumar. Many winners are playback singers today, including Sonu Nigam. He has organized many film star nights. He has about 4000 newspaper clippings in his record covering his 50 years of cultural life. Mr Kohli is a linguist and has done Certificate Courses in German, French, Spanish and Russian. He occasionally contributes articles in daily newspapers including Hindustan Times as also in Hindi newspapers on subjects relating to art and culture. He was throughout a scholarship holder and also an all rounder sportsman representing college in Cricket, besides playing Badminton, Table Tennis, Swimming and Contract Bridge. He is an authority on the subject of LPG and natural gas reticulated piping systems and is a member on the National Technical Committee on Gas Cylinders. He has published technical papers and codes on the subject. He has written a booklet on playback singer Mukesh and is presently working on his forthcoming book “The A to Y of Sikhism” This channel is devoted to Great Legends of India.
