March of the Belgian Parachutists (1946) Pierre Leemans (1897-1980) John R. Bourgeois (b. 1934) Tempo is quarter note = 112 Beginning - Be light and precise with the grace notes to ensure accurate timing. Letter B - Dynamic nuances and articulations are what make this section. Be as precise and accurate as possible. Do not over play. If you see piano in the music, play piano, even if it feels awkward. There's a reason for it and if everyone in the band does it together, it sounds pretty cool. Letter G - Though this is another statement of the section at letter B, the dynamics can be stronger. Continue to adhere to the dynamic nuances written in. Letter I – Trio – The opening of the trio is pretty articulated. Just don’t let it get too heavy. Be sure to really come down on the first statement of the countermelody. You’ll get to play it again louder later in the piece. Subdue it for now, making the most out of the dynamic swells. Just before this returns, you have a bunch of quarter notes with marcato accents above. Don’t be violent with these and don’t overpower other instruments with more important lines in the music here. The notes sound best if played with a full sound and separated only slightly. Make them sound like orchestral downbows.
