🇬🇧 UK Emergency Alert! 3 Days Be Ready – What Is Happening in Britain? | Costco Shopping & UK Reality
Is the UK preparing for an emergency? Why is the British Government advising people to be prepared for at least 3 days (72 hours)? Should we be worried, or is this simply sensible emergency planning?
In today’s London Thamizhachi vlog, I explain the UK Government’s “Prepare for Emergencies” guidance, why households are encouraged to keep essential supplies, and what we should know about unexpected situations such as power cuts, water shortages, severe weather and other emergencies.
🛒 We also visited Costco and other UK shops to see the real shopping situation, check essential household supplies and show you what we experienced.

Be Ready Campaign guidelines for foreign students :
The UK Government's "Be Ready" campaign is a nationwide public safety initiative advising all residents—including international students—to prepare for potential three-day (72-hour) disruptions to utilities like electricity, water, and internet. This is a standard resilience measure matching other European countries, intended to prepare for severe weather, flooding, or major cyberattacks.
As a foreign student living in university halls or private student accommodation, you are expected to follow the advice.
1. Build a 72-Hour "Emergency Kit"
You do not need to panic buy. The official GOV.UK Be Ready Checklist advises picking up these essentials gradually during your routine grocery shopping:
• Water: 3 litres of bottled drinking water per person, per day (9 litres total for 3 days).
• Food: Non-perishable food that does not require cooking or refrigeration (e.g., tinned tuna, tinned beans, dried fruit, nuts, and a manual tin opener).
• Power & Light: A fully charged portable power bank for your phone, plus a torch (flashlight) with spare batteries (avoid using candles due to fire risks).
• Information: A battery-powered or wind-up FM radio so you can tune into local news if the internet or phone towers go down.
• Warmth & Health: Warm blankets, a basic first-aid kit, and any essential prescription medications.
• Cash: A small amount of physical cash (coins and notes), in case card machines or ATMs stop working during a power outage.
2. Protect Your Legal Documents
Keep printed physical copies of your visa documents, passport, university enrollment letter, and student health insurance details in an easy-to-reach, waterproof folder. If digital systems go offline offline, physical proof of your legal status is vital.
3. Save Emergency Contact Details Offline
Write down key phone numbers on paper. If your phone battery dies, you will need physical access to:
• Your university's campus security or international student support team.
• Your landlord or accommodation manager.
• Your country's embassy or consulate in the UK.
• 999 (The UK emergency services number for immediate danger).
4. Know Your Accommodation Rules
If you live in university-owned student halls, speak to your Resident Advisor (RA) or accommodation manager. Ask them what the building’s emergency protocol is for power cuts or water disruptions, and where emergency gathering points are located.
Would you like me to look up the emergency contact details or specific student resilience guidelines for your university, or help you find the contact information for your local embassy in the UK? Let me know the name of your university or home country and I can pull that information for you.
