One tribute I especially wanted to share was the museum’s short video about Marine Private First Class Ralph H. Johnson. During the Vietnam War, he courageously threw himself onto a grenade to protect his fellow Marines, sacrificing his own life. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. His name holds special meaning here in Charleston: the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center is named in his honor. Learning the story behind that familiar name makes this tribute especially powerful.
