Dolly Parton, Jelly Roll & the Danger of Following People

A celebrity, pastor, Christian leader, friend, or even someone whose testimony inspired you can say or do something you never expected—and suddenly you’re questioning everything. The recent death of country music legend Dolly Parton has reminded millions of people how temporary this life really is. At the same time, recent public conversations surrounding Jelly Roll show how quickly people form expectations about celebrities—and how disappointed or angry they can become when those expectations aren't met. Dolly Parton died August 25 at age 80 after a brief battle with cancer. Jelly Roll recently addressed public assumptions about his political beliefs and acknowledged that his own thinking about using his platform has evolved. This isn't a Bible study about judging either person's heart. It's about ours. Jesus said in John 14:6: “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” Not a celebrity. Not a politician. Not a preacher. Not your favorite Christian personality. Jesus.
