Can Christians oppose interracial marriage while claiming their position has nothing to do with racism?
In this episode of Race, Religion & Racism, Dr. Fred Price and Min Marvin Fant plays an archival recording of a Christian minister expressing opposition to interracial marriage while presenting the position in terms of personal choice and conviction. The speaker was later identified as Kenneth Hagin Jr.
This episode examines the larger question raised by that recording: Where does personal preference end and racial prejudice begin?
Dr. Price challenges Christians to examine how racial attitudes entered American Christianity and whether opposition to interracial relationships actually has a biblical foundation.
The Bible contains serious teachings about marriage, faith, character, commitment, and believers being spiritually compatible—but does Scripture prohibit a Black Christian from marrying a White Christian simply because of race?
We examine Dr. Fred Price, Kenneth Hagin Jr., interracial marriage, Christianity and racism, the history of race within the American church, biblical marriage, racial prejudice, church history, and the difference between cultural tradition and biblical teaching.
This discussion isn’t about attacking individuals. It’s about examining ideas. Christians should be willing to test even long-held religious traditions against Scripture.
Is opposition to interracial marriage biblical—or did racial attitudes become intertwined with Christianity in ways that were never taught by Jesus?
