Peter loved Jesus. But Peter also believed he knew how strong that love would make him. He promised he would follow Jesus to prison and even to death. Hours later, he denied Him three times. But Peter’s failure did not surprise Jesus. Before Peter fell, Jesus had already warned him. Before Peter denied Him, Jesus had already prayed for him. And after the resurrection, Jesus met Peter again beside the Sea of Galilee. There was a charcoal fire. There was bread. And there was one question: “Lovest thou me?” Jesus knew Peter completely.
