What if the next chapter of your life is the one where you finally back yourself?
In this episode of Women Behind The Business, Jayde Winsley sits down with Elizabeth Le Breton, founder of Balancing Life, for a conversation about reinvention, meaningful work, human connection and why age should never be the reason you stop yourself from starting something new.
Elizabeth spent more than 30 years in education and leadership before moving into coaching, speaking and eventually becoming an Authorised Marriage Celebrant.
Her path wasn’t perfectly planned.
It changed.
It evolved.
And sometimes the thing she thought would become the business wasn’t actually where she ended up.
Then in 2024, a phone call from her cousin changed everything.
Elizabeth was asked if she could officiate her cousin’s daughter’s wedding.
She wasn’t a celebrant yet.
So she decided to become one.
What followed was around 900 hours of study, mock ceremonies, legal requirements and a race to become authorised in time for the wedding.
She received her approval just one week before the ceremony.
And she hasn’t looked back.
In this conversation we talk about:
• Reinventing yourself after decades in one career
• Why Elizabeth believes age is no barrier
• Her journey from education into coaching, speaking and celebrancy
• The surprising amount of training involved in becoming a marriage celebrant
• Why relationships and making people feel seen have always been at the centre of her work
• The art of telling a couple’s story through their ceremony
• Weddings, elopements, vow renewals, baby naming ceremonies and funerals
• Why meaningful ceremonies should never feel one-size-fits-all
• Helping nervous couples relax and actually enjoy their ceremony
• The importance of celebrating someone’s life properly at a funeral
• Building a business later in life
• Surrounding yourself with women who will believe in you before you believe in yourself
• Elizabeth’s goal of 27 weddings in 2027
One of the strongest things Elizabeth shared was:
“I don’t want to die wondering.”
Her advice for the woman sitting on an idea, a change or a dream is simple:
Take the first step.
Don’t wait until everything is perfect.
Give it a go.
Because sometimes the people around you will believe in what you’re capable of before you’re ready to believe it yourself.
