Portrait in the Attic | A Victorian Sleep Story in a Snowstorm | The Sound of the Fireplace

A slow, atmospheric Victorian sleep story set in the heart of a Derbyshire winter, December 1891. Follow Cornelius Ashworth, a 47-year-old solicitor in the quiet stone town of Westhaven, through a snowstorm night when the world outside turns white and violent — and a single climb to a long-forgotten attic reveals a covered portrait, a folded note, and twenty-two years of silence given a name at last. A story about the weight we carry without knowing, the things we never said, and the quiet moment when the past finally finds its rightful place. Designed for adults who find rest in slow-paced Victorian atmosphere, melancholic winter moods, and the stillness of a house holding its breath in a snowstorm. Inside this story you'll find: a storm arriving after dark on the fourteenth of December one amber light in a stone house, burning alone against the weather a cold cup of tea, forgotten on a desk beside an empty tobacco holder the creak of attic floorboards under a weight they haven't carried in years a cloth half-slipped from a portrait in a carved wooden frame dark chestnut hair, a navy dress, a brooch at the collar fingers tracing the name E. Blackmore, 1869 a folded note yellowed with nine years of waiting one sentence that changes the shape of twenty-two years a small plain gold ring carried through every winter since copper kettle on a dark stove, steam rising toward the ceiling dying embers watched without being fed a teacup held in both hands until the warmth reaches the wrists snow pressing quietly against the glass all night long 🎧 Best with headphones, low volume, eyes closed. #sleepstory #victoriansleepstory #cozysleepstory #bedtimestory #wintersleepstory #snowstormsleepstory #victorianengland #1891 #atmosphericsleepstory #melancholicstory #adultbedtimestory #sleepaid #relaxation #calmnarration #deeprest #soothingnarration #quietlife #solitude #firesidesounds #fireplacesounds #snowsounds #winternight #victorianatmosphere #peacefulsleep #cozywinter #fireside #derbyshire #englishwinter #portraitstory #lostlove #corneliusashworth #westhaven #atticportrait #snowfall #contemplative #slowliving #victorianhouse #blizzard #secretportrait #unsaidwords #pastandfuture #deepsleeptales
