How did the first Tales of game age?

The "Tales of" saga is one of the most famous and long running fantasy franchises in the world, having released various titles from 1995, when its first iteration was released, up to today. Because of this, the Tales of series has had the time to evolve and refine its formula from its initial form: however, this made me ask how was the first Tales of game and how would it hold up against the newer iterations of its franchise. And so, today, join me on this trip in the past, back in 1998, the year in which its PS1 version was released, to seek the answer to a question no one but me probably had in their minds in the last period: how did Tales of Phantasia, the first Tales of game ever created, age? And how did the Tales of series evolve from there? Did it already set the basis for what the franchise ended up being, or was it just a random experiment forgotten by time and then modified to make the series become what it is now?
