One of the main characteristics of the Feria de Málaga is that it is divided into two celebration areas: the Day Fair, which takes place in Málaga’s city center from 12:00h to 18:00h, and the Night Fair, located at Cortijo de Torres (Málaga Congress Center), where activities continue throughout the day and into the night. The city center comes alive for this major festival, which begins on Saturday, August 16. The historic center is decorated with colorful lanterns and floral arrangements, with Calle Larios featuring a spectacular entrance. Visitors can be seen wearing traditional flamenco dresses, while the streets are filled with the music and lively performances of verdiales. Numerous stalls sell hats, sunglasses, scarves, and other accessories needed to enjoy the authentic Feria atmosphere. The festivities come together at Plaza de la Constitución, where the atmosphere is especially lively. Visitors can find food and drink kiosks as well as a stage featuring live performances from different artists. Facts About the Feria de Málaga Traditional clothing is an important part of the Feria. Men often wear campero outfits, while women wear trajes de gitana, or traditional flamenco dresses. Specialty shops throughout Málaga sell these dresses, which can be quite expensive depending on the fabric and design, although more affordable options are also available. The most popular dances during the Feria include flamenco, malagueñas, verdiales, and sevillanas, all of which contribute to the festival’s traditional Andalusian character. The biznaga is one of the symbols of Málaga. It is a distinctive white floral arrangement made from jasmine flowers attached to a thistle-like plant known as nerdo. During the Feria, demand for biznagas is particularly high, making it one of the busiest times of the year for sales of this traditional flower. Another iconic feature of the Feria is Cartojal, a sweet white wine made from Muscatel grapes. It is traditionally served very cold and is strongly associated with the Málaga Fair. It is widely available at establishments throughout the city, with a 750 ml bottle typically costing around €5–€7. A rebujito is another popular Feria drink. It is traditionally made by mixing manzanilla or chamomile wine with Sprite or 7UP and fresh mint. It is served extremely cold and is especially refreshing during the warm August celebrations. At the Night Fair, visitors can enjoy the casetas, temporary structures where music, dancing, food, and drinks are offered. Most casetas include a dance area and a tablao for performances. Some are open to the general public, while others are private and require membership or an invitation to enter.
