The question was never whether someone looks good on paper. It's whether this particular person fits the vision you have for your life, and you can't answer that until you've defined the vision first. Joey Klein walks through why the list most of us carry into dating (a certain height, a certain income, a certain look, a certain career) says very little about who we're actually choosing.
In this video, Joey Klein breaks down:
• Why none of the qualifications on your list mean very much until you know the life you're trying to build
• The questions to answer about your own life first: family or no family, where you want to live, what you want to be doing twenty years from now, what you're building
• Why someone can meet every qualification you thought mattered and still be completely wrong for the life you actually want to create
• Internal pattern dynamics over external benchmarks: the emotional energy a person consistently drives with (joy, passion, peace, love) is what they will fuel the relationship with
• The mindset questions that tell you who someone already is rather than what they've accumulated: ownership, optimism, long-term aspirations, financial responsibility
• Two ultra-high performers building a life together: why that combination brings its own difficulties, and why somebody still has to run the house and raise the kids
• Why neither arrangement (master of the company or master of the household) is inherently better, and why that's exactly the point
• How this turns dating from a contest to attract the most impressive person into an exercise in discernment
• The sequence that makes it all work: start with your own life and your own vision, then evaluate whether another person's vision fits with yours
This is not an argument against wanting a successful, attractive or accomplished partner. Joey is clear there's nothing inherently wrong with any of those things. They just can't tell you whether the two of you can co-create the life you want.
🤔 QUESTION OF THE DAY: What was on your list that, looking back, had nothing to do with the life you actually wanted to build?
