Welcome back to Play Time in the Craft Room!
Remember those Christmas die cuts we made from cardstock scraps last week? Well, they're back—and this time we're turning them into something completely different!
Last week I pulled out the Spellbinders July 2023 Large Die of the Month – Stocking Full of Joy and used scraps from my cardstock stash to create the stockings, gnomes, gingerbread people, candy canes, greenery and all those little Christmas details.
At the end of that play session, I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do with everything. I knew they could easily become cards, but I wanted to see if I could take them in another direction.
Enter the shadow boxes!
For this week's project, I'm taking the two stockings we created and turning them into dimensional Christmas décor. I brought in Christmas patterned papers for the backgrounds, layered in our die-cut greenery and characters, and added a few embellishments to finish everything off.
I love that the two shadow boxes have completely different looks even though they started with the same die set. And the best part? We're still using supplies that were already hanging out in the craft room.
Of course, you could absolutely use Stocking Full of Joy to make a traditional Christmas card. But sometimes it's fun to ask, “What else can I do with this?”
So grab something from your stash and come enjoy some Play Time in the Craft Room with me!

And this project gives you a nice payoff from last week's “Christmas From the Scraps” video: last week was about playing and creating the pieces; this week is about figuring out what those pieces can become.
