In the cloud forests of Bolivia’s Yungas, a tiny wild cat was discovered living in a way no one expected. At first, researchers believed it was an oncilla — a small spotted wild cat already known to science. But its unusual appearance raised questions. It was smaller than expected, its spots were different, and something about this animal didn't fit. Years later, researchers returned to the evidence. Old photographs, museum specimens, DNA samples, and complete genomes from dozens of wild cats revealed something extraordinary: this tiny cat belonged to a completely separate evolutionary lineage that had been evolving for around 1.4 million years. This is the story of Tylkaio — a wild cat from Bolivia’s Yungas cloud forests that became the first new species of cat described by science in more than a century. But discovering a new species is only the beginning. How many Tylkaio are still living in the forests? Could their population already be in serious decline? And will scientists find them before their habitat disappears? This is the story of a mysterious cat, a scientific discovery, and a race to understand one of the world's least-known wild animals. #Wildlife #WildlifeDocumentary #NewSpecies #Tylkaio #Bolivia #NatureDocumentary #WildCats #AnimalDiscovery #Science #Conservation
