“Gamma-Gerät” is inspired by the legendary German 42 cm Gamma-Gerät siege howitzer—one of the most powerful artillery weapons of the First World War. Designed by Krupp and first deployed in 1914, the Gamma-Gerät was built to destroy the seemingly impregnable concrete forts of Liège, Namur, and Maubeuge. Firing shells weighing up to roughly 800–1,160 kg (depending on shell type), this monstrous weapon could pulverize reinforced fortifications from miles away and marked the end of the age of static fortress warfare. Transported in sections by rail and assembled on a prepared firing site, the Gamma-Gerät represented the terrifying marriage of engineering and destruction. Its thunderous blasts echoed across the Western Front, reducing concrete and steel to rubble and leaving defenders buried in darkness and dust.
