ONE MORE // DESMOND DOSS
[INTRO — LOW / DISTANT DRUMS]
No rifle.
No blade.
No hatred in his faith.
They told him war meant killing—
he chose another way.
Medic bag.
Bible tight.
Walked straight into the fight.
And when everyone else came down—
Doss went back up.
⸻
[VERSE 1 — BOOT CAMP / FAST HARD RHYME]
19-42
Fort Jackson heat, boots hit GROUND,
new men marching, commands came DOWN.
“Grab that RIFLE, shoulder that STEEL!”
Doss stood firm on what he believed was REAL.
Wouldn’t take LIFE, wouldn’t train to KILL,
but swore he’d SERVE and he’d serve there STILL.
Called him COWARD, laughed in his FACE,
tried every way they could drive him from PLACE.
Barracks got COLD, ridicule got LOUD,
one lonely conscience against the CROWD.
Wouldn’t work Sabbath when choice could be MADE,
wouldn’t touch weapons no matter who SWAYED.
They wanted him OUT, said he didn’t BELONG,
but stubborn conviction kept marching ALONG.
“You won’t carry a gun? Then what GOOD are YOU?”
He answered with ACTION
before they ever KNEW.
He learned every BANDAGE, learned every VEIN,
how to stop BLEEDING, how to handle PAIN.
While everybody trained how to put men DOWN—
Doss trained harder
to keep them AROUND.
⸻
[PRE-CHORUS — BUILD]
They laughed—
“YOU WON’T LAST!”
He stayed.
They pushed—
“PICK UP THE GUN!”
He prayed.
They thought refusing to kill meant fear—
They hadn’t seen
Okinawa yet.
⸻
[CHORUS — MASSIVE DROP]
ONE MORE!
GIVE ME STRENGTH FOR ONE MORE!
Through the FIRE, through the ROAR,
drag another brother from the jaws of WAR!
ONE MORE!
THEN I’LL ASK FOR ONE MORE!
No weapon raised—
but courage to the CORE!
Lower them DOWN
from that blood-soaked HEIGHT—
ONE MORE!
ONE MORE!
ONE MORE TONIGHT!
⸻
[VERSE 2 — HACKSAW RIDGE / DOUBLE TIME]
19–45
Okinawa SKY turned smoke-black GRAY,
Maeda Escarpment swallowing the DAY.
Machine guns CRACK, mortar rounds FALL,
orders came down—
GET OFF THAT WALL!
Men withdrew, but wounded stayed,
scattered through hell where the bodies were LAID.
Doss looked BACK when the others went DOWN—
then turned toward FIRE
and went another ROUND.
Crawl through MUD, find one still ALIVE,
stop that blood, keep that heartbeat ALIVE.
Drag him BACK through rifle-fire TRACKS,
rope round BODY—
lower him off HACKSAW’S BACK.
Then BACK.
Another.
Then BACK once MORE.
Every trip walking deeper through WAR.
Hands burned RAW, knees cut through,
smoke so thick he could barely see THROUGH.
No covering FIRE.
No rifle in HAND.
Just one medic refusing
to abandon a MAN.
Around seventy-five brought down from that HEIGHT,
one after another through hell that NIGHT.
Every time exhaustion screamed—
“NO MORE!”
Doss looked upward—
“Lord… help me get ONE MORE.”
⸻
[FINAL CHORUS — HUGE]
ONE MORE!
GIVE ME STRENGTH FOR ONE MORE!
Through the FIRE, through the ROAR,
bring another brother back from WAR!
ONE MORE!
THEN I’LL ASK FOR ONE MORE!
No weapon raised—
but courage to the CORE!
They called him WEAK
until they saw him FIGHT—
not taking lives—
SAVING THEM ALL NIGHT!
ONE MORE!
ONE MORE!
ONE MORE!
DESMOND DOSS—
The soldier who proved
you don’t have to hate your enemy
to stand beside your brothers.
⸻
[OUTRO — QUIET / HEARTBEAT]
Boot camp asked:
“How can you be a soldier
without a weapon?”
Hacksaw Ridge
gave them the answer.
A rope.
A medic bag.
A prayer.
And three words—
“Just one more.”
DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR.
