Ashish sahu Electrician instructor To measure the frequency of a signal using a Function Generator and a Cathode Ray Oscilloscope (CRO), follow these steps: 1. Setup the Function Generator Connect the function generator to a power source and turn it on. Select the desired waveform (sine, square, or triangular). Adjust the frequency knob to set an approximate frequency. Adjust the amplitude as needed. Connect the output terminals of the function generator to the CRO input using a BNC cable or probes. 2. Setup the CRO Turn on the CRO and set the Time/Div (Time per division) control to an appropriate value. Set the Voltage/Div (Vertical sensitivity) to properly display the waveform. Ensure the probe is in DC or AC coupling mode as required. 3. Measuring Frequency A waveform will appear on the CRO screen. Count the number of divisions one full cycle of the waveform occupies on the horizontal axis. Multiply the number of divisions by the Time/Div setting to get the Time Period (T). T = ( No. of Divisions per cycle ) × ( Time/Div setting ) T=(No. of Divisions per cycle)×(Time/Div setting) Calculate the frequency using the formula: f = 1 T f= T 1 where f is the frequency in Hz. Example Calculation Suppose one complete wave takes 5 divisions, and the Time/Div setting is 2 ms/div. Time period T = 5 × 2 T=5×2 ms = 10 ms. Frequency f = 1 T = 1 10 ms = 1 0.01 = 100 f= T 1 = 10 ms 1 = 0.01 1 =100 Hz. This means the function generator is producing a 100 Hz signal.
