🚀 EIGRP 3 TABLES AND PACKET TYPES | ONLINE CCNA CLASS 23 | RoutX1
Welcome to RoutX1 Online CCNA Course – Class 23! 🔥 In this class, we continue our journey into EIGRP (Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol) and learn two very important concepts: EIGRP Tables and EIGRP Packet Types.
EIGRP is an advanced dynamic routing protocol used by routers to exchange routing information, discover neighbors, calculate the best paths, and maintain reliable routing information. Understanding its tables and packet communication is extremely important for CCNA students and anyone who wants to build strong Cisco networking skills.
📚 WHAT YOU WILL LEARN IN CLASS 23:
🔹 EIGRP Neighbor Table
🔹 EIGRP Topology Table
🔹 EIGRP Routing Table
🔹 Purpose of each EIGRP table
🔹 How EIGRP neighbors are discovered
🔹 How routing information is stored
🔹 Successor and Feasible Successor
🔹 Best path selection
🔹 EIGRP DUAL basics
🔹 EIGRP packet communication
🔹 Hello Packets
🔹 Update Packets
🔹 Query Packets
🔹 Reply Packets
🔹 ACK / Acknowledgment Packets
🔹 Reliable Transport Protocol (RTP)
🔹 How routers exchange EIGRP information
🔹 EIGRP troubleshooting basics
🔹 Useful Cisco IOS verification commands
🟢 EIGRP NEIGHBOR TABLE
The Neighbor Table contains information about EIGRP routers that have formed neighbor relationships. EIGRP uses Hello packets for neighbor discovery and maintaining neighbor relationships. You will learn how to understand neighbor information and how to verify EIGRP neighbors using Cisco IOS commands such as:
show ip eigrp neighbors
🔵 EIGRP TOPOLOGY TABLE
The Topology Table is one of the most important parts of EIGRP. It contains routes learned from EIGRP neighbors and provides information used by DUAL to select the best path.
In this class, you will understand Successor, Feasible Successor, Feasible Distance (FD), Reported Distance (RD), and how EIGRP evaluates multiple paths.
Useful command:
show ip eigrp topology
🟣 EIGRP ROUTING TABLE
After EIGRP calculates the best available path, the selected route can be installed in the IP Routing Table. You will learn the relationship between the Neighbor Table, Topology Table, and Routing Table and understand how EIGRP chooses the route used for packet forwarding.
Useful command:
show ip route eigrp
📦 EIGRP PACKET TYPES
EIGRP communicates using different packet types. In this class, we explain each one with practical examples:
1️⃣ HELLO – Used for neighbor discovery and maintaining EIGRP adjacencies.
2️⃣ UPDATE – Used to communicate routing information and route changes.
3️⃣ QUERY – Used when EIGRP needs information from neighbors about an available route.
4️⃣ REPLY – Sent in response to a Query packet.
5️⃣ ACK – Used to acknowledge reliable EIGRP communication.
You will also learn why some EIGRP packets are transmitted reliably and how EIGRP's Reliable Transport Protocol (RTP) helps provide ordered and reliable delivery. Cisco documents these packet behaviors and EIGRP's neighbor/topology mechanisms in detail.
💻 PRACTICAL CCNA LAB
This class is designed to help you understand EIGRP through practical Cisco networking examples. We will connect routers, establish EIGRP neighbor relationships, examine EIGRP tables, observe routing information, and understand how different packet types participate in the routing process.
You can practice these concepts using Cisco Packet Tracer or a Cisco IOS lab environment.
🔧 IMPORTANT COMMANDS
show ip eigrp neighbors
show ip eigrp topology
show ip route eigrp
show ip protocols
show ip eigrp traffic
