I DIED AT LANGLEY: I COULDN'T BELIEVE WHY HE SENT ME BACK!

Air Force Airman Flatlines at Langley — Jesus Shows Him His Younger Self. At 19, Air Force airman Chase Skylar DeMayo was minutes from being sent home from the hospital at Langley Air Force Base. A nurse adjusted his IV and walked out. Then the monitor went flat. What happened next was not a dream. A presence no one else could see stroked his arm and warned him the air traveling up his vein would hurt. He watched the line go flat. Love and light opened his chest, and he found himself standing in a garden of colors that do not exist here. A young man in a robe was playing with a curly-haired blond toddler. The boy was Chase. The man was Jesus. No doubt. No debate. Jesus did not give him a career plan. He showed him the child he had stopped being and told him to bring back love, laughter, and joy — laughter on purpose. Chase woke in a civilian hospital in Hampton, Virginia, still wearing the hospital band. He posted “the day I died” on April 1, 2008. By July 8, he was medically retired. The identity he had sold his car and left his family for was gone. In this conversation, he shares what he did with the years that followed: breakdancing, ballroom, comedy, photography, DJing on a Carnival ship (where he met his wife), and a later word on a quiet plane that it is not his job to carry everyone’s pain.
