Have You Heard What REALLY Happened to Howard Devoto?

#howarddevoto #magazine #rocknrollhistory Have You Heard What REALLY Happened to Howard Devoto? Howard Devoto helped start Buzzcocks, recorded the landmark Spiral Scratch EP—and then walked away just as British punk was exploding. Rather than repeat a sound he already felt finished with, he formed Magazine and pushed toward something colder, stranger, and more ambitious. This video explores what really happened to Howard Devoto, from Manchester’s first encounters with punk and his sudden Buzzcocks exit to Magazine, artistic tensions, commercial frustrations, and the restless decisions that repeatedly pulled him away from expectations. Devoto’s story is unusual because disappearing was often part of the choice. After Magazine, he moved through Luxuria, solo work, collaborations, and long stretches when his public musical activity became remarkably sparse. Even later reunions never turned into an attempt to permanently recreate his youth. What really happened to Howard Devoto is about an artist who helped ignite one movement, abandoned it before it could define him, and spent the rest of his career protecting the freedom to change direction—even when that meant stepping away from the spotlight. #howarddevoto #magazine #rocknrollhistory #HQ002
