East Broad Top 16: Early Fall on Pennsylvania's Narrow Gauge Railroad 2026 (4K)

In 2023, when steam returned to the East Broad Top, I was down in Cumberland, Maryland, filming 1309 run in its original Chesapeake & Ohio appearance, during the Winter Flyer excursions. Ever since then, I've been trying to figure out when I could finally get out there to East Broad Top to see 16, and the Historic Railroad. Plans kept falling through until last Saturday. Bison Rail Photography and I woke up at 4 AM and drove down to Rockhill Furnace, Pennsylvania. Nick (EBT 16), was operating this weekend. It was wearing EBT 14’s whistle that weekend. It was great to finally see this engine in action. I was immediately struck by how frozen in time this place feels. Out of all the places I've filmed steam trains, looking out over that yard is something else. Set against the Pennsylvania countryside where the fall colors weren't there yet, but there was some color. 16 led three passenger trains north to Coalgate Grove & return. At 3 PM, it made a run south to Pogue on the newly reopened tracks, which is part of the railroad's ongoing project to eventually reopen the line to Saltillo. Come join me trackside on a crisp early fall day as I chase 16 on a long overdue adventure to this historic Railroad. This won't be my last trip here. EBT 16 is a narrow gauge E series Mikado built for the East Broad Top Railroad by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1916. 16 is one of the largest Mikado's at the East Broad Top. It and 18 were the only two engines that did not operate during the original tourist era of the railroad. When the original East Broad Top Railroad shut down in 1956, 16 was in the middle of an overhaul. When it was announced in 2020 that the East Broad Top would be reopening, 16 was the engine picked to be restored. In 2023, it returned to steam. The Fall Foliage Season is now in Full swing, and this weekend if all goes well, I will be filming my States steam Railroad Arcade & Attica 18 during it's annual Fall Foliage excursions. I am excited and hyped for Santa Fe #2926 during the Lerro Photo Special at the end of the month. After that if all goes well I look forward to #1702 and #4501 later. As everyone now knows #844 will be double heading with the Big Boy, and I am looking forward to that.
