Blackstar's ID:X 100. A really surprising first look at an all digital gigging solution.

(Paid Partnership: Massive thanks to Blackstar for sponsoring this video and sending over the ID:X 100 for a real-world test! As always, my thoughts, critiques, and rehearsal results are 100% my own honest opinion as a gigging musician.) Can a modern 100-watt digital combo actually keep up with a heavy-hitting drummer, or are you still forced to buy an expensive valve head for real rock gigs? Today, we are putting the brand-new Blackstar ID:X 100 through a brutal, real-world test to see if it genuinely deserves a spot on a working musician's backline. Instead of just sitting in the studio, we are taking a deep dive into its practical, real-world application. I break down the physical controls, demo the different preamps, effects, power amp emulations, and Cab Rig IRs, before showing you how I mapped out an entire 3-hour Noughties indie tribute gig using just this amp and a footswitch. I set up 9 distinct presets across 3 banks, using the extra switches to toggle my tuner, drives, mods, and delays on the fly. Finally, I cart it into the band's rehearsal room for a raw, rough-and-ready phone recording to see if it can cut through a live mix against a loud drummer.
