Your paycheck gets deposited into a bank. They pay you almost nothing to hold it. Then when you need a car, house or business loan, you go back to that same institution and pay them interest to borrow capital. So what if you started understanding — and using — the same principles yourself? In this episode of Cash Flow Conversations, Matt Love and Glenn Yaney break down how banks actually make money, why access to capital matters more than most people realize, and how banking, cash flow and liquidity can change the way you structure your finances. Glenn starts with a real example: a line of credit he used to operate his business was unexpectedly shut down while the bank processed his financials. He thought he had $20,000 available — until the bank decided he didn't. That's the problem with relying entirely on somebody else's banking system. They control the levers. Matt explains how banks create spreads by taking deposits and lending capital at higher rates, why banks and major corporations use life insurance inside their financial systems, and how individuals can start thinking more like the institutions they're already giving their money to. They also dig into Walmart's historical use of life insurance on employees, tax strategy, retirement accounts, generational wealth and why having money doesn't necessarily mean having access to capital. Glenn shares how he once found a mobile home park for $400,000 that required around $100,000 in capital. He had more than $100,000 sitting in his 401(k), but didn't have the liquidity or system in place to deploy it. Today, he says that property is worth around $1.6 million. The money existed. It was simply in the wrong system.
