World fusion - Andreas Brunn (D) e-guitar | Vladimir Karparov (BG) tenor sax | Roberto Badoglio (IT) 6 string e-bass | Manuel Podhostnik (SLO) drums | featuring Alaa Zouiten (MAR) Oud - Thanks for the great work of the Zig Zag Jazzclub team, especially Dimitris Christides ! And thanks Hans-Georg Flack for the great video! In June 1995, Andreas Brunn played his first FFH concert together with the famous Swiss Chapmastick player Hans Hartmann. This was the beginning of a very creative & long lasting collaboration. FOR FREE HANDS was invited to play at the Festival Jazz au Chellah in Morocco, as well as to collaborate with the moroccan virtouse oud player, ALAA ZOUITEN (MAR). The results were so successful that we decided to keep on working together. In this constellation there are indeed 5 nations on the stage. Our wonderful actual album “The passing on of the fire” was released by Laika Records. And we are very pleased that our CD was the Jazz album of the week! on NDR Kultur. In March 2025, Andreas Brunn was a guest in the studio of Deutschlandfunk Kultur at Funkhaus Berlin. The famous radiostation presented his arrangement of Chick Corea's ‘Armando's Rhumba’ in her wonderful programme DLF Musikmagazin TONART JAZZ. Jazzmagazin Jazzthing. : Rhythmically sophisticated pieces delight the ears of even the most demanding listener, beautiful melodies characterize the compositions. Diverse, colorful, grooving, casual - the 5 musicians from 5 countries offer a catchy, urban jazz with a good portion of oriental ingredients.” Anis Hajjam (Telquel - Casablanca) "This lutenist Alaa Zouiten is one of the most talented of his generation. As a supporter of a reflected musical inclusion of many influences, he is committed to the sincerity that one would like to see more often." Modernícolas (ES) : For Free Hands @ Malaga Jazz Festival: “... a New Way of understanding Jazz ... Synergy is the word to define this Berlin quartet. For Free Hands represents contemporary jazz: dissonant sounds grow into beautiful melodies that hang over a richly varied rhythmic pattern. This impressive quartet unite different cultures with their music to create a hard-hitting album.” Aziz Sehmaoui (Paris) "Alaa Zouiten is a hard worker, a great musician. An expert like we rarely meet. His love is to speak and shout with the Oud. He plays with great passion." Kieler Nachrichten: “Andreas Brunn always brings back memories of John McLaughlin. His playing and compositional talent are enigmatic and full of intelligent wit; after all, a jazz fugue like “Wizards' Cube” doesn't write itself”.
