ROOTS AND PRAISE | CELEBRATING OUR ROOTS, PROCLAIMING HIS GLORY

Who is THE REAL HERO of the Bible? As we reflect on the heroes we celebrate in history and society, this message turns our attention to some of Scripture’s most remarkable figures—Joseph, Moses, and David and reveals how their stories ultimately point beyond themselves to Jesus Christ. Joseph rose from betrayal and suffering to a position where he could save many lives and forgive those who wronged him. Yet his story points us toward Jesus, the greater Joseph betrayed by His own, yet becoming the means of salvation and forgiveness for countless people. Moses left privilege behind, became a deliverer, mediated for his people, and interceded for Israel. Yet Moses points us toward Jesus, the greater Moses the One who delivers humanity from its ultimate enemies of sin and death and mediates the New Covenant. David is remembered as the champion who faced Goliath, but the biblical story challenges us to look beyond seeing ourselves as the hero. Jesus is the true Champion who confronted the enemy we could never defeat ourselves and secured victory on our behalf. And just as God provided the ram in Genesis 22, the greatest provision was ultimately Jesus Himself—the Lamb provided for us. The heroes of Scripture matter, but their lives continually direct our attention to Someone greater. Jesus is THE REAL HERO.
