Stephen Marche Explains Why Canadians Are So Fed Up With the United States

This is one conversation I've been looking forward to for quite some time. I finally had the opportunity to sit down with Canadian author and journalist Stephen Marche, whose writing about the United States and the changing Canada US relationship has really resonated with me over the past year and a half. We started with Alberta's referendum results and what they mean for Canadian unity. From there, we got into the anger and disappointment many Canadians are feeling towards the United States, and why so many Americans seem to have such a difficult time understanding the Canadian boycott. Of course, we also talked about the US tourism decline, Canadians avoiding US travel, and whether the damage to our relationship with America can ever be repaired. Stephen had some interesting thoughts about why our boycott is having an impact, and what happens when Canadians discover that there are plenty of other places in the world where we can spend our money. But one of the most interesting parts of our conversation was about the America we both grew up knowing. We talked about the places we once loved visiting, why neither of us feels the same desire to return, and whether Canadians will ever look at the United States the same way again.
