• Vintage Americana Music — Small-Town Memories
It is a Saturday in December 1962, and Mom is taking the children downtown. ❄️🎁
Step into a warm holiday memory with this original instrumental collection of vintage Americana: fingerpicked acoustic guitar, upright piano, soft tenor saxophone, upright bass and light brushed drums, with no vocals. Perfect for relaxing, reading, wrapping presents, or a quiet cup of coffee.
A Snowy Saturday Downtown, 1962
At the kitchen table, a girl seals her letter to Santa while her little brother gives his piggy bank a hopeful shake. At the front door, Mom buttons a small white glove and straightens a red earflap cap. Then it's out to the corner, where the green-and-cream city bus comes through the snow, and the driver touches the brim of his cap.
Downtown, pine greenery hangs from the lamp posts and crowds gather at the department store windows, where little mechanical elves hammer at toys and snow falls inside the glass. Inside the store, the elevator operator calls out the floors, the wooden escalator carries them up, a little train runs high above the toy department, and Christmas cookies wait behind the bakery glass. There's warm soup and hot chocolate in the store tearoom. At the post office, the clerk hands Mom a sheet of new Christmas stamps. At the five-and-ten, while Mom looks at scarves by the door, the children count their coins onto the counter, and a kind saleslady takes her time with every penny.
At blue dusk, the shop lights glow against the falling snow, and church bells ring across the town square. A letter is placed into Santa's hands at last. On the crowded bus ride home, a small boy stretches up to pull the stop cord, and Dad is waiting under the street lamp in the snow. Later that night, a little package tied with a ribbon quietly finds its way beneath the tree.
Music: original vintage Americana with gentle country, folk and oldies colors, like a radio playing softly in a downtown shop at Christmastime.
Best for: Relaxing at home • Reading • Wrapping gifts • Coffee breaks • Holiday memories
