The scene changes to the band’s touring van that travels a few kilometers away to the small superb town of Les Lilas on the outskirts of Paris. There the band members set up shop in a small bar for an impromptu and very intimate half-hour set of songs from their recently released Delta album. It’s an invite-only space perfect for an up-close performance. Formed in 2007 in London, Mumford & Sons (named for core member Marcus Mumford) gradually built an audience for its folk-infused, rhythmic rock music that has its roots in a country vein with Americana influences. It‘s elevated above most forgettable pop-rock bands by Mumford’s attention to writing smart lyrics with literary allusions. The group features Mumford on acoustic guitar and vocals, Ben Lovett on piano and Ted Dwane on upright bass. Also, a key performer is banjo player Winston Marshall in one of his last tour stops with the band. He left the group in 2021 during the pandemic hiatus of live shows for Mumford & Sons. Highlights of this laid-back, entertaining mini-set include the folk-rocking ”Guiding Light” from Delta.
