Dracula Chapter 9: Van Helsing Is Summoned | Calm Gothic Sleep Story

Dracula by Bram Stoker, Chapter 9, read slowly and softly as a gothic sleep story for Halloween. A calm, unhurried reading to fall asleep to: still candlelit paintings, no music, no jump scares. Halloween crossover: Pawpaw from Pawpaw's Sleepy Time Stories stops by with his lantern at the start of tonight's chapter, with just the right book for the monster trouble, and we thank him at the end. Tonight the story is told in letters and diaries. Mina writes from Buda-Pesth, where she has found Jonathan weak but safe in a hospital, and the two are married quietly at his bedside. Back in England Lucy is happy, but pale and troubled by strange nights, and Arthur asks his friend Doctor Seward to see her. Seward finds no cause he can name, so he writes to his old master, Professor Abraham Van Helsing of Amsterdam, who comes at once. Meanwhile Seward's patient Renfield grows calm and wild by turns, and the chapter ends with a telegram: come at once. This is the full, unabridged text of Chapter IX, from the public-domain Project Gutenberg edition of Dracula (eBook #345), gutenberg.org/ebooks/345. A new chapter every night through October 30, then Mondays and Thursdays from November with your host Van Helsing. The narration is an AI-generated voice (a local text-to-speech model), and the paintings are AI-generated. This is a gentle story for rest and relaxation. It is not medical advice or a treatment for any sleep condition. 0:00 Pawpaw stops by with the right book (Halloween crossover) 0:37 Settling in 0:59 Chapter IX: Mina's letter from Buda-Pesth 4:57 A wedding at the bedside 8:05 Lucy's letter from Whitby 9:16 Doctor Seward's diary: Renfield 13:30 Lucy's diary 14:56 Arthur's letter 16:32 Seward visits Lucy 19:45 Van Helsing is summoned 21:17 Van Helsing's reply 22:31 The professor comes 27:17 Renfield and the sunset 32:01 Telegrams to Amsterdam 32:35 Soft close The story continues tomorrow night with Chapter 10, Van Helsing Arrives.
