Alisa the Logger Helps Restore the Siskola Sauna (#227)

Alisa the logger and her daughter are back at Siskola, and it’s wonderful to have an extra pair of helping hands. Together we continue working on the old sauna, uncovering more of its story as we carefully dismantle the damaged sections. This time we discover that the sill beam has rotted away—and, more importantly, we find the reason why. Plastic trapped behind the timber prevented the structure from breathing, allowing moisture to cause extensive decay over the years. We also add natural linen insulation to the sauna door, remove more old rock wool insulation, and cut away additional rotten timber so the building can be repaired properly. As always, restoration isn’t just about fixing old buildings. It’s about sharing the work, learning together, and enjoying the process. Between the demolition and discoveries, we make plenty of time to laugh, chat, and appreciate another beautiful day at Siskola.
