This visit to the “Dalí Theatre-Museum” was part of a “Catalonia & Little Trains of the Pyrenees” tour with Rail Discoveries. This museum is not somewhere I’d normally go, but as it turned out it was a very enjoyable experience and I’d certainly recommend it.
Inaugurated in 1974, the Dalí Theatre-Museum is built on the remains of the former Municipal Theatre of Figueres and it is considered to be the last great work of Salvador Dalí. Everything in it was conceived and designed by the artist so as to offer visitors a real experience and draw them into his unique and captivating world. Dalí established the Foundation in 1982 in order to manage his museum at Figueres with the aim of protecting and promoting his work. Dalí passed away in 1989, but his legacy, through the Foundation will continue to inspire and fascinate visitors for generations to come. Salvador Dalí was Born in Figueres on 11 May 1904. In 1916 he spent time at the Molí de la Torre estate on the outskirts of Figueres, owned by the Pichot family, a family of intellectuals and artists; it was there, through the collection owned by the painter Ramon Pichot, that he discovered Impressionism.
