Living in Florida, hurricane preparedness is always on my mind. After Hurricane Ian, I wanted an emergency power system that was completely independent of the grid, could be expanded over time, and—most importantly—used solar panels I could actually remove and bring inside before a hurricane arrives. My system starts with five Renogy 200W ShadowFlux flexible solar panels, giving me a 1,000-watt removable solar array. The panels are mounted using powerful magnets, so I can disconnect them, remove them from the dock, and store them safely inside when severe weather is approaching. That solar feeds a SungoldPower SPH6548P 6,500W 48V split-phase inverter and a SungoldPower 51.2V 200Ah LiFePO4 battery, giving me approximately 10.24kWh of battery storage. And this isn’t just emergency equipment. When the grid is working, I can use the system to power equipment, run an RV, or even charge my Tesla using my EVDANCE charger. Instead of an expensive emergency system sitting unused most of the year, every kilowatt-hour I produce and use is electricity I don’t have to purchase from the utility. For extended outages, I can also recharge the battery with my EFURDEN 4300W portable inverter generator, giving me another option when solar conditions aren’t ideal. In this video, I’ll show you how the entire system works, why I chose a high-voltage solar array for the long run from my dock to the garage, how quickly the panels can be removed, real-world solar production, generator charging, Tesla charging, and what the complete system cost me. ⸻ ☀️ EQUIPMENT, LINKS & DISCOUNT CODES RENOGY — 200W ShadowFlux Flexible Solar Panels 🔗 Link: Meet Renogy’s new Flex Shadowflux— Maximize Power Under Partial Shade:https://dataaccess.renogy.cn/t/e1 🔗 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HJQQ6RY4?... 🏷️ Discount Code: flexruby12 SUNGOLDPOWER — SPH6548P 6,500W Inverter + 48V 200Ah Battery 🔗 Inverter: https://amzn.to/4zrHRiE 🔗 Battery: https://amzn.to/47g94ZG 🔗 Website: https://sungoldpower.com EFURDEN — 4300W Portable Inverter Generator 🔗 Link: https://efurden.com/products/4300w-qu... 🏷️ Discount Code: ruby5 — (5% off each order on website) EVDANCE — EVDANCE Flux 40A NACS Portable EV Charger (for Tesla & NACS EVs) 🔗 Link: https://www.evdances.com/products/evd... 🏷️ 25% off code: EVDRUBY 🔧 OTHER PARTS USED IN MY BUILD — AMAZON Gidrox Large Generator 🔗 https://amzn.to/4B3wb7t Solar Wire / PV Cable 🔗 https://amzn.to/4rWWTug PV Disconnect Switches 🔗 https://amzn.to/4jXyAdA 90-lb Magnets for Removable Solar Panels 🔗 https://amzn.to/47PQAiS 430 Stainless Steel Plates for Magnetic Mounting 🔗 https://amzn.to/4yJAhQu RV Power Center — 20A / TT-30 / NEMA 14-50 🔗 https://amzn.to/47OzkKU 30A Power Cord (Yes, I cut the end off) 🔗 https://amzn.to/4y9bMLr Using these links helps support Ruby’s Adventures Unplugged and allows me to continue purchasing and independently testing equipment for future videos. ⸻ This system currently has 1,000 watts of removable solar, 10.24kWh of battery storage, and 6,500 watts of inverter capacity—but there’s plenty of room to expand. And I keep looking at all that unused space on the dock… 3,000 watts of removable Renogy ShadowFlux solar? That might make a pretty interesting future project.
