A one-day summer journey. By JR to Toyooka, then changing to the Kyoto Tango Railway to reach Amanohashidate. A sightseeing boat along the pine-covered sandbar, then a visit to Motoise Kono Shrine and its inner shrine, Manai. A cable car up to Kasamatsu Park for a sweeping view of Amanohashidate. After seeing the front-facing dragon at Nariai-ji Temple, down the mountain by chairlift, and back across Amanohashidate on foot. Sacred water that saved me from a parched throat, a phone that died after all that walking, and a footbath to rest afterward. The day closes with Chion-ji Temple in the evening, and dinner.
