We're now live on Spotify. 🎧 Listen here: https://open.spotify.com/show/0QQo4TA... In this calming church history documentary, we journey into one of the most momentous turning points in Christian history, following the complete story of the fall of Constantinople and how 1453 changed where Christianity lived and remembered itself. Long after the city had ceased to be an empire in more than memory, Constantinople in early April 1453 faced its final trial. Behind twelve miles of Theodosian walls stood fewer than eight thousand defenders under Emperor Constantine XI, while across the moat waited Sultan Mehmed II, his great bombards, and a host many times their size that had already closed the Bosphorus with the fortress of Rumeli Hisari. We'll explore every major chapter of the siege, from the weakened Byzantium left by 1204 and plague and the divided hopes of the Council of Ferrara-Florence, to the fifty-three-day defence led with Giovanni Giustiniani, the great chain across the Golden Horn, the Ottoman ships carried overland into the harbor, the wounding of Giustiniani and the opening at the Kerkoporta, and the fall on 29 May 1453 and conversion of Hagia Sophia into a mosque. From the last liturgies in Hagia Sophia to the appointment of Patriarch Gennadius II over a millet church, the survival of Orthodoxy under Ottoman rule, and the slow shift of memory north to Moscow as Third Rome, we'll follow the complete tale of loss, endurance, and transformation that ended the Roman Empire and reshaped Eastern Christianity and the West. Told in a calm and soothing style, this video invites you to relax, unwind, and drift off to sleep while experiencing the timeless story of Constantinople and the quiet continuity of faith after empire. Please note that while the narrative is thoroughly based on historical research, its primary purpose is storytelling for entertainment and relaxation.
