Most of us were never taught what rest is for. We were taught it is what you earn after you have bled yourself dry.
So we work through it. We take on more. And then, when abundance finally shows up, we sabotage it, because somewhere underneath it all we don't believe we deserve to have it easy.
In this conversation we get into boundaries, scarcity mindset, and why so many Black women are more comfortable with struggle than with success.
I define rest as the intentional interruption of systems that rely on our constant output. Rest is not the opposite of ambition. Rest is what makes strategy possible. When you are rested you think clearly, you create, you dream, and you make better decisions about your money, your business, and your boundaries.
We walk through the 7 types of rest from Dr Saundra Dalton-Smith's Sacred Rest:
Physical rest, passive and active
Mental rest, quieting the constant internal noise
Emotional rest, not having to perform, explain, or pretend
Social rest, being with people who do not drain you
Sensory rest, stepping away from overstimulation
Creative rest, restoring imagination and wonder
Spiritual rest, connection to something greater than yourself
And I add an eighth: Financial Rest, the ability to turn rest into revenue.
Tell me in the comments which of the eight you neglect most, and which one your body is asking for right now. If this is your first time here, subscribe. This is the conversation we keep avoiding.
