In November 1922, at the bottom of a buried stairway in Egypt's Valley of the Kings, Howard Carter held a candle to a small hole in a sealed door. Warm air drifted out of the darkness. Then, out of the dark, came a gleam of gold.
For more than three thousand years, the tomb of a young king had lain hidden in a valley that thieves, travelers and scholars had searched again and again. This is the full story of how it stayed lost, and how one stubborn archaeologist finally found it: the boy king and his hurried burial, the village of the men who built the royal tombs, Carter's years of failure, the first step under a workman's hut, the "wonderful things" seen by candlelight, and the ten years it took to empty the tomb.

About this film
The script is based on Howard Carter's own journals and books, the Griffith Institute's Tutankhamun archive (University of Oxford), the Theban Mapping Project, and museum and scholarly sources. Where historians disagree, the narration says so. The visuals are AI-generated reconstructions, not archival photographs.
