25th February 1967: Wolves gritty performance against Everton in the FA Cup last week obviously impressed the BBC bosses so much they decided to feature the club again the following week. Wolves had to focus on the season's main priority of promotion to Division One and faced a tricky visit to a windy Fratton Park where Portsmouth, as usual in financial trouble, awaited them. Luckily for the BBC their decision proved a master stroke as the two teams served up a classic feast of goals, drama and controversy. This spilled over following the programme's original transmission where Pompey, incensed at Wolves striker Peter Knowles deliberatly kicking the ball out of the ground, attempted to sue the star for compensation. With this story splashed all over the newspapers Match of the Day had finally realised it had become integral viewing on a Saturday night. Commentator: Kenneth Wolstenholme
