It was meant to be the safest and most prestigious palace, but for five hundred years it left behind one tragic story after another. Throughout the Ming Dynasty, seventeen women ruled as Empress from this residence, only to face deposition, physical abuse, cruelty, and the eventual collapse of their world. When the Qing Dynasty rebuilt the structure and transformed it into a bridal chamber for imperial weddings, it promised love and new beginnings, but every marriage that started inside its walls still dissolved into heartbreak.
