Part 6: From Fins to Forests – The Devonian Revolution

The Devonian period, often called the Age of Fish, witnessed a rapid diversification of jawed vertebrates that transformed the oceans, while pioneering plants and arthropods began to carve out the first footholds on land. This episode traces those intertwined revolutions and the environmental shifts that drove them. From these early colonists arose seed‑bearing plants and the first tetrapods, setting the stage for terrestrial ecosystems, yet two closely spaced Late Devonian extinctions pruned marine life and reshaped the evolutionary pathways that follow.
