*ISTANBUL — THE CITY THAT CHANGED HISTORY 🇹🇷*
Some cities witness history. *Istanbul changed it.*
Welcome to Episode 3 of my **Türkiye Travel Documentary Series**, where I return to Istanbul to explore the historic heart of a city that has stood at the crossroads of civilizations for centuries.
After leaving Cappadocia, I flew back to Istanbul and made my way to Sultanahmet, where some of the most extraordinary monuments in human history stand just minutes apart.
My journey takes me through the historic streets surrounding **Hagia Sophia**, the magnificent **Blue Mosque**, and the resting place of **Sultan Mehmed II — Mehmed the Conqueror**, whose conquest of Constantinople in 1453 transformed the course of history.
From Ottoman architecture and Byzantine heritage to Turkish coffee, Istanbul's famous Galata Bridge, the legendary Galata Tower, and the vibrant streets of Taksim and İstiklal Avenue, this episode explores both the history and the living character of Istanbul.

🏛️ A City of Civilizations
Istanbul has served as the capital of powerful empires and has carried different names throughout its long history. From Byzantine Constantinople to Ottoman Istanbul, its streets, monuments, mosques, churches, markets, and waterways preserve layers of history that continue to shape the city today.
Hagia Sophia alone represents centuries of transformation, while the Blue Mosque stands as one of the finest examples of Ottoman architecture.
And then there is Sultan Mehmed II.
The conquest of Constantinople in 1453 was one of the defining events of world history. For Muslims, the event also carries special significance because of the well-known Prophetic tradition concerning the conquest of Constantinople and the praise associated with its conqueror and army.
🌉 From History to Modern Istanbul
But Istanbul isn't only about ancient monuments.
As the sun disappeared, I crossed Galata Bridge, walked toward Galata Tower, and continued along the lively İstiklal Avenue toward Taksim Square.
Historic red trams, street musicians, restaurants, cafés, illuminated buildings, and thousands of people created a completely different side of Istanbul.
The day ended with a traditional Turkish **Cağ Kebab**, bringing together history, culture, food, and everyday life in one unforgettable experience.
