Спите под покровом Матери Божией — ночное афонское песнопение с глубоким исоном

Rest under the protection of the Mother of God as the monks of Mount Athos keep their night prayer. 🕯️ This is Byzantine chant from Mount Athos sung by men's voices alone: a solo cantor answered by the brotherhood over the deep ison, the low note the monks hold beneath every phrase, with no instruments and no beat, only voices in the warm reverb of a stone church. The chant is sung in Byzantine Greek, in the ancient modes of the Orthodox Church, and you do not need to understand the words for the prayer to reach you. On the Holy Mountain this Athonite prayer has continued day and night for more than a thousand years. These night chants turn again and again to the Theotokos: Beneath Thy Compassion, the Axion Estin, the Akathist sung slowly toward midnight, Psalm 90 against the terror by night, and prayers to beloved Athonite saints such as Athanasios, Silouan and Gregory Palamas. Let this Orthodox chant accompany your evening prayer, the quiet repetition of the Jesus Prayer, or the last moments before sleep. If your heart is anxious or weary, you are welcome to lie down here under her veil while the slow, gentle Greek Orthodox chant settles around you. May the Byzantine chant of the Athonite monks be a peaceful companion through the night. #MountAthos #ByzantineChant #OrthodoxChant #GreekOrthodox #OrthodoxMonks #Theotokos #SleepMusic #NightPrayer #SacredMusic #Prayer #Peace
