Building a Wooden Deck From Scratch | Country Living DIY Ep. 1

After living outside the city for a year, we realized something was missing: a nice, shaded spot to sit outside in the summer and enjoy the views. So, we decided to build a deck! ​Since my husband has never done anything like this before, he spent a lot of time researching everything about how to build a deck that would seamlessly connect to our house. Once we got all the materials, we started building at the end of summer. ​Quick note: I missed filming the very first step—pouring the concrete footings for the foundation because I was away. Once they were ready, we let them cure for two weeks to reach maximum strength. As soon as those two weeks were up, our lumber arrived! ​In this video, you’ll see our very first day on the job: building the wooden subframe/framing. Because this is our first-time DIY project, we made plenty of mistakes that we had to fix along the way, which definitely stretched out the process.
